Check it out! https://youtu.be/IUzSXNc_qZg South Texas has Fire Ants like crazy. We found out the hard way that Robin is deathly allergic to almost all of the store bought pesticides used for treating fire ants.... one of their main ingredients is capsicum or capizole, a derivative of capsaicin. The typical natural alternative to store bought pesticides would to be sprinkle chili powder onto your garden... which contains powered red peppers in it, the main item Robin is allergic to. So we started looking at other ways to get rid of these pesky pests that were not going to destroy our helpful bugs like the snails and earth worms. Garlic did the trick , but also killed our pill bugs which are the heavy metal processors of the Earth and the Earth Worms. Diatomaceous earth was used, but once again, it also killed our helpful critters. Boric Acid and a couple others were ruled out as they were also harmful to our plants and soil. So far, cinnamon has been our fighting "fire with fire" solution.

We haven't found anything more effective than cinnamon in the war on fire ants. But we just found out the other use of cinnamon: it's a powerful anti fungal! We used it to sanitize our latest bush cuttings we are trying to root. Use it sparingly in your garden, though. Fungus is crucial to the food web of plants. You don't want fire ants, but you do want soil fungus. We leave non-aggressive ants as well, they work the soil.😀
Good 2 no. Starting my first big garden this year. I was worried about the ants. I'm trying the cinnamon. Thanks.
